Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Senator the Hon. Ruel Reid, says teachers must be trained to better identify students who are in dire need of special attention.
The Ministries of Health, and Education, Youth and Information will be partnering to more effectively serve children with special educational needs. Education Minister, Senator the Hon. Ruel Reid, said the intervention, which is targeted for implementation in September, will provide for earlier detection of children with learning disabilities and disorders, and to address those issues before they enter the formal education system.

In an interview with JIS News, he said the Ministry is fully aware of the challenges teachers face when dealing with these students, and they should be commended for their level of empathy and the work they have been doing.
