Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, Hon. Floyd Green, has invited the Kiwanis movement to deepen their partnership with youth and children.

Delivering the keynote address at the 45th anniversary of the Kiwanis Club of Portmore on May 22 at the Four Seasons Hotel in St. Andrew, Mr. Green said the establishment of youth clubs is another area in which the group can lend their expertise.

He suggested that the organisation could expand its involvement in areas such as getting early-childhood institutions certified, and developing mentorship initiatives with the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA)-run facilities.

Emphasising that visits made by members to children’s homes have delivered many positives, the State Minister said he wants to see “more long-term engagements”.

“We are going to work together until we have fulfilled a list of priorities,” Mr. Green told the audience.

The State Minister noted that while challenges exist with the youth population, he has seen untapped potential that must be given opportunities to shine.

He commended the Kiwanis Club on its anniversary, noting that during its 45 years, the members have delivered “real service” to the people of Portmore, and have touched many lives in the communities.
