MONTEGO BAY, St James - Mayor of Montego Bay Glendon Harris has declared Thursday, October 13, ‘CC (Cornwall College) Day in the Bay’, in celebration of the school’s 120th anniversary.
“I now declare October 13, CC Day in the Bay,” Harris said at the recent launch of the celebrations held at the school’s chapel.

The institution, which has had a rich history, now has an enrolment of over 1,600 students, including some 12 girls in its sixth form programme.
The one-year anniversary celebration kicks off during Homecoming Week, October 9-15, for the traditional all-boys’ school, the oldest in the second city, which has produced some of the island’s most brilliant minds.
The week commences with a church service and brunch at the school’s chapel. Tuesday, October 11 will see the staging of a ‘New Comers Track Meet’, with participation from the school’s grades 7 and 8 students, as well as six primary schools from the city: Chetwood Memorial, Barracks Road, Corinaldi Avenue, Howard Cooke, Catherine Hall and Green Pond.
“These are feeder schools; many of their students end up attending Cornwall College, so this is our way of giving back to these institutions,” explained Heroy Clarke, president of the Montego Bay chapter of the old boys’ association, adding that “a mentoring programme will be born out of this”.
On Thursday, October 13, a massive concert is scheduled for the historic Sam Sharpe Square, featuring Hezron Clarke, the top three artistes from the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) competition, recording act Mackie Conscious, Major Lloyd, the MACC Singers, and the Cornwall College School band.
On the following day, old boys locally will be joined by their counterparts from North America, the UK, and the rest of the Caribbean on the school’s compound for a day of fellowship and mentoring. Approximately 70 past students are expected to participate in this historic event.

Then later, the old boys will play football with a school team, followed by an integration party at the Aqua Sol Theme Park. The week culminates with the staple ‘Homecoming Dinner and Dance’ at the Montego Bay Convention Centre. A number of prominent Cornwallians are to be recognised with the ‘Men of Might’ and the Hall of Fame awards.
“Cornwall College remains a beacon in Montego Bay, and this year will give us an opportunity to re-energise the entire city,” Clarke argued.
