Title aspirants Wolmer’s Boys’ continued their unbeaten run in the 2016 Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/FLOW Manning Cup competition after registering a comfortable 4-1 victory over Camperdown High at home yesterday.

Alphanso Gooden opened the scoring for Wolmer’s Boys’ when he easily converted from the penalty spot in the 11th minute.

Rivaldo English then made it 2-0 in the 28th minute when he tapped home in front of an empty goal that gave the diving Camperdown’s goalkeeper Prince-Daneil Smith no chance. Yomick Elliott then joined the party and slotted home in the 42nd minute to give Wolmer’s Boys’ a comfortable lead going into the break.

The game became less attractive in the second half after 10 minutes of heavy downpour; however Wolmer’s Boys’ kept the pressure on their opponents with some one-two passes.

But a beautiful strike from Garnett Hyatt in the 64th minute pulled Camperdown within two gaols, at 3-1, to give his side a glimmer of hope and to set up a blistering finish. But when Andrew Daley scored in the 66th minutes for the boys from Heroes’ Circle, it was all over for Camperdown.

With the victory, the Heroes’ Circle-based team has extended their tally atop Group F to maximum 24 points from eight games, while Camperdown are labouring in second position on 13 points from seven games.

Winning coach Vassel Reynolds said that he was pleased with his team’s effort.

“I think that it was a much-improved performance by Wolmer’s from the first leg against Camperdowm. We knew the situation that we were in, and we figured that more than less we needed to come with a more improving effort today (yesterday), and the guys did what they had to do and secured the victory,” Reynolds told the Jamaica Observer.

His opposite number Christopher Bender, said: “We were just unlucky today (yesterday). We gave up a penalty, which I thought was a little soft, and another goal came about when the ball deflected off a defender just when we came back in the game at 3-1. We were determined as we wanted to win the second half, but we lost in the first half as we didn’t play with enough pride.”

In other Group F games, Dunoon Technical (nine points) defeated Jose Marti Technical (eight points) 3-1.
