Essential back-to-school supplies were handed over to the Maxfield Park Children’s Home in Kingston, yesterday (September 6), by the Jamaica Diaspora in the United States.

The supplies were delivered by Jamaica Diaspora Advisory Board member from the United States of America (USA), North-East, Joan Pinnock.

Ms. Pinnock, who is an attorney-at-law, told JISNews that the donation is a way of giving back, in some small way, to the children of Jamaica who are less fortunate.

“We were able to bless the children with some books and backpacks, just to get them fully ready for school,” she said.

She pointed out that a call was made to the wider Jamaican population in north-east USA, who were encouraged to make the donation that would be taken back to Jamaica and distributed to needy children in homes.

Ms. Pinnock added that supplies were also taken to other facilities, including the Manning’s Boys’ Home in St. Elizabeth.

Meanwhile, Acting Manager at the Maxfield Park Children’s Home, Winston Bowen, expressed gratitude for the supplies.

“This will go a far way in meeting the needs of the children. We have about 30 children who go out to community schools and are in classes pursuing various subjects,” he noted.
