School Donors Urged to Follow Guidelines

Posted on 8/16/2016

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information is reminding donors, particularly those in the diaspora, to follow the stipulated guidelines when making their contributions to schools.

In a bulletin issued, the Ministry advised that donors must make contact with the National Education Trust (NET) prior to shipping items, and complete a donation form.

After getting approval to ship items, donors must ensure that goods are consigned to the NET and submit a Bill of Lading or Air Waybill.

Upon notification of arrival of goods, the NET will prepare a letter, which must be collected by the donor or school representative to take to Jamaica Customs.

Beneficiaries must confirm receipt of goods and a customs broker is required for items valued over US$5,000.

Fifty per cent of the Customs Administrative Fee and the Environmental Levy will have to be paid by the donor or beneficiary and cannot be waived.

The full guidelines and the donation form can be accessed on NET’s website- http://www.net.org.jm/resource.

For further information, persons may call 967-9007 or 967-7962.
