Petrojam has awarded scholarships valued at $1. 2 million to 24 top-performing Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) students from two Corporate Area schools.

The students were selected from Greenwich All-Age and the St. Andrew Primary schools.

The scholarships, provided under the company’s educational support programme will provide the students with financial assistance for five years of high school and will cover tuition, books and fees.

Manager for Human Resource Development at Petrojam, Roselee Heron, said the scholarship programme, implemented in 2006, represents the company’s “commitment to national development and confidence in the potential of the children to achieve academic and personal success”.

“It is also an expression of our belief in the multiplicity of benefits that can accrue to an educated society to enable persons to make better and more responsible decisions,” she added, while addressing the awards luncheon held recently Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel in St. Andrew.

Ms. Heron encouraged the students to continue to strive for excellence, noting that they are the future leaders of the society.

Guest speaker at the event, Brittany Singh-Williams, who is also advisor to Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, Hon. Floyd Green, congratulated the students and urged them to continue to do well in school.

She also commended the teachers, who prepared the students for GSAT.
