Applications are being accepted for the Glen Bromfield/Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) Education Trust Fund Scholarship. The scholarship is open to secondary school students in first to fifth form whose parents or guardians are members of the JCSA.
General Secretary of the JCSA, Tiffany Powell, told JIS News that the concept is the brainchild of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Medallion Hall Hotel and Bloomfield Jamaica Limited, Glen Bromfield.
She noted that after Mr. Bromfield consulted with two former presidents of the JCSA, Wayne Jones and Edward Bailey, the scholarship was established at the JCSA’s annual general meeting in 2011.
“The scholarship was established to provide financial assistance for children at the secondary level who are excelling but have financial difficulties,” Ms. Powell said.
Since its establishment five years ago, approximately 21 students have benefited from scholarships valued up to $100,000 each and bursaries worth $20,000 each.
The Administrator General’s Department is the trustee of the scholarship.
All applications are to be delivered to the Trust Fund’s Secretariat, at 10 Caledonia Avenue, Kingston 5, no later than Friday, July 22. Late applications will not be accepted.
Application forms are available from departmental representatives within the various ministries and agencies or the Secretariat at the JCSA.
Along with the forms, applicants must submit proof of parents/legal guardian’s membership in the JCSA, birth certificate, proof of relationship between applicant and JCSA member, letter from the educational institution and the certified copies of academic report from the previous school year.
All other supporting documents (if not submitted with application) are to be handed to the Trust Fund’s Secretariat no later than July 31.
