Review of Money Given to Foster Families

Posted on 6/15/2016

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information is to examine the monetary support provided to foster families, under the Foster Care Services programme.

“We hope to go to Cabinet at some time during the course of the year in relation to the monetary support,” said Minister of State in the Ministry, Hon. Floyd Green.

He was speaking during his contribution to the 2016/17 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on June 8.

The State Minister said the Child Development Agency (CDA) will, this year, focus on implementing the Foster Care Standards through the sensitisation of staff and foster care families.

Meanwhile, Mr. Green noted that a new Adoption Board, chaired by an attorney-at-law, has been appointed.

He said the Board and the CDA have been tasked with streamlining and increasing the efficiency of identifying the children fit for adoption and placing them with families who are suitable.

“The (law) will also have to be reframed and modernised to ensure that at the end of the day it is the interest of the child that is foremost,” Mr. Green said.
